A Quinta da Cardiga: aproximação à sua arquitectura, paisagem e território

Abstract

Ao longo de oito séculos a Quinta da Cardiga, implantada na margem norte do Rio Tejo, perseverou nos solos férteis da lezíria ribatejana, até encontrar, a partir de 1970, o seu grande momento de crise, um impasse que tem conduzido ao declínio do seu património edificado. As transformações tecnológicas e económicas resultaram na mudança de paradigma do sustento das quintas de produção agrícola no Ribatejo, desvirtuando conjuntos que se assumiam pela multiplicidade de recursos. Policulturas deram lugar a monoculturas intensivas de regadio que deterioram e empobrecem a paisagem, ignorando as alterações climáticas em curso. Partindo da investigação multidisciplinar do edificado e paisagem da Quinta da Cardiga, propõe-se uma estratégia de revitalização assentando a proposta na reposição da continuidade dos sistemas culturais e naturais, como forma de salvaguardar este património, assegurar o seu futuro e idealmente recuperar uma forma de habitar o meio rural em que as funções agrícolas se articulem com novos espaços de recreio; ABSTRACT: Quinta da Cardiga: Approaches to its Architecture, Landscape and Territory Over eight centuries, Quinta da Cardiga, implanted on the north bank of the Tagus River, persisted in the fertile soils of Ribatejo lezíria, until reaching, from 1970 onwards, its great moment of crisis, leading to the decline of its built heritage. Technological and economical transformations resulted in a paradigm shift in the sustainability of agricultural farms in Ribatejo, distorting sets that were assumed by the multiplicity of resources. Polycultures have given way to intensive irrigated monocultures that deteriorate and impoverish the landscape, ignoring the ongoing climate change. Starting from the multidisciplinary study of the building and landscape of Quinta da Cardiga, a revitalization strategy is projected, based on the proposal to restore the continuity of cultural and natural systems, as a way to safeguard this heritage, ensure its future and ideally rediscover ways to inhabit a rural environment where agricultural functions are linked to new recreational spaces.
