Património arquitectónico contemporâneo da Universidade de Évora: Arquitecto Vítor Figueiredo e o edifício para o Pólo da Mitra

Abstract

A presente dissertação apresenta uma abordagem arquitectónica a um dos edifícios mais representativos do património arquitectónico contemporâneo da Universidade de Évora, as primeiras instalações construídas de raiz pela universidade, que foram concebidas pelo arquitecto Vítor Figueiredo. Procurará ainda esta dissertação contribuir para um melhor conhecimento deste edifício, no âmbito do património arquitectónico da Universidade de Évora e do programa universitário na obra do arquitecto, sobre o qual ainda não terão sido efectuados estudos mais sistemáticos. Na primeira parte da dissertação, procurou-se enquadrar o projecto no âmbito da instituição e do seu património arquitectónico, sobretudo do Pólo da Mitra. A segunda parte, dedicada ao arquitecto Vítor Figueiredo, tem início com a contextualização da produção arquitectónica do século XX e do programa universitário em Portugal e, a partir deste registo a investigação debruça-se sobre a sua obra, em particular sobre as suas últimas décadas. Por último, procura-se realizar o estudo detalhado a nível arquitectónico do edifício para o Pólo da Mitra, com o objectivo de reconhecer o seu valor patrimonial e constituir uma base que contribua para o processo da sua divulgação e classificação. O edifício para o Pólo da Mitra corresponde a um momento de transição quanto às instalações da Universidade de Évora, uma vez que, até à construção deste edifício a instituição adquiriu edifícios préexistentes, que recuperou e adaptou, passando a privilegiar a partir de então a construção de novas instalações, concebidas para responderem às suas exigências e necessidades. O projecto é também um marco importante na obra de Vítor Figueiredo, sendo que enquanto primeiro edifício para o ensino superior na sua obra, o arquitecto estabelece princípios que serão trabalhados e aprofundados nos dois projectos seguintes. Vítor Figueiredo realiza no Pólo da Mitra um exercício de reconhecimento, elogio e experimentação com recurso ao léxico da arquitectura erudita, popular, clássica e contemporânea e projecta um edifício que constitui uma referência não apenas na sua obra e no âmbito do património arquitectónico da Universidade de Évora como no contexto da produção arquitectónica nacional do século XX, no qual se constata o seu valor patrimonial; ### ABSTRACT: CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURAL PATRIMONY OF ÉVORA UNIVERSITY: THE ARCHITECT VÍTOR FIGUEIREDO AND THE BUILDING AT MITRA CENTRE. This dissertation presents an architectural approach to one of the most representative buildings of architectural heritage of the contemporary University of Evora, the first facility built from scratch by the university, which were designed by architect Victor Figueiredo. This thesis will also seek to contribute to a better understanding of this building within the architectural heritage of the University of Evora and the university program in the work of the architect, on which have not yet been carried out more systematic studies. In the first part of the thesis, we tried to frame the project within the institution and its architectural heritage, particularly from Mitra. The second part, devoted to the architect Victor Figueiredo, begins with the context of architectural production of the twentieth century and the university program in Portugal and, from this record research focuses on his work, particularly on their last decades . Finally, we attempt to perform a detailed study ,in architectural terms, of the Mitra, in order to recognize their heritage value and provide a basis to contribute to the process of disclosure and classification. The building under analysis corresponds to a transitional moment observed in the housing needs of the University. Prior to its construction, the Institution had acquired, restored and adapted several buildings for academic purposes; from then onwards, however, some new infrastructures have been built so as to meet the specific requirements of the several academic disciplines it offers. The project is also an important landmark in Vítor Figueiredo’s work. Being his first building for an Institution of Higher Education, the architect established a set of principles which would be further developed in two subsequent projects. Vitor Figueiredo performs at the Mitra an exercise of recognition, praise and experimentation using the vocabulary of classical architecture, popular, classical and contemporary designs a building that is a reference not only in his work and in the architectural heritage of the University of Évora as in the context of national architectural production of the twentieth century, which notes the book value
