O presente trabalho descreve um caso de quilotórax idiopático canino, abordando o diagnóstico, tratamento e evolução clínica, destacando-se ainda a identificação de Trichosporon asahii, um fungo oportunista raramente descrito neste contexto; - Canine Chylothorax - Abstract: Canine chylothorax is characterised by the accumulation of chyle within the pleural cavity due to alterations in thoracic lymphatic drainage. It may occur secondary to cardiovascular disease, neoplasia, trauma or abnormalities of the lymphatic system. When no underlying cause is identified, it is classified as idiopathic. Pleural fluid accumulation may impair lung expansion and cause dyspnoea, tachypnoea, exercise intolerance, coughing and lethargy. Diagnosis is based on cytological and biochemical analysis of pleural fluid, complemented by diagnostic imaging to investigate the underlying cause. Treatment may include medical and surgical approaches, such as thoracic duct ligation, cisterna chyli ablation and partial pericardiectomy. This study describes a clinical case of canine idiopathic chylothorax, addressing its diagnosis, treatment and clinical outcome, with particular emphasis on the identification of Trichosporon asahii, an opportunistic fungal species rarely reported in this context.
