Redes sociais e extrema-direita: Uma ameaça para a democracia e os direitos humanos?

Abstract

Esta dissertação de mestrado procurará interpretar os fenómenos decorrentes do papel e influência das redes sociais na expansão da extrema-direita, tornando-se numa ameaça para a democracia e para os direitos humanos. O intuito será perceber de que forma as redes sociais alimentam o extremismo, ou seja, de que forma as redes sociais e Internet são vistas como uma ferramenta de grande utilidade para propagar o pensamento extremista e fragilizar democracias. Para isso será explorado o conceito de extremadireita, o modo de funcionamento das redes sociais e a presença da extrema-direita nas mesmas. A existência de perigos derivados da interação da extrema-direita nas redes sociais e a ameaça da extrema-direita por si só geram consequências negativas na sociedade moderna, o que deve ser explorado. Desta forma, torna-se possível entender o fenómeno e todos os seus intervenientes, assim como a gravidade dos perigos. - Social networks and the far-right: A threat to democracy and human rights? - Abstract:This master's thesis will seek to interpret the phenomena arising from the role and influence of social networks in the expansion of the far right, becoming a threat to democracy and human rights. The aim will be to understand how social networks feed extremism, that is, how social networks and the Internet are seen as a very useful tool for spreading extremist thinking and weakening democracies. To this end, the concept of the far-right will be explored, as well as how social networks work and the presence of the far-right on them. The existence of dangers derived from the interaction of the far-right on social media and the threat of the far-right in itself generate negative consequences in modern society, which should be explored. In this way, it becomes possible to understand the phenomenon and all those involved, as well as the seriousness of the dangers.
