A saúde funcional percebida medeia o efeito de variáveis sociodemográficas sobre os afetos em adultos mais velhos?

Abstract

Pretende-se com este estudo perceber se a saúde funcional percebida medeia o efeito da idade, do género, das habilitações literárias e do estado civil sobre os afetos em adultos mais velhos. A amostra foi constituída por 304 participantes com idades iguais ou superiores a 65 anos, voluntários, comunitários, residentes em meio urbano e controlados para compromisso cognitivo e depressão. Testou-se a validade estrutural do Questionário de Competência Motora Básica Percebida (QCMBP) e de uma escala de afetos positivos (AP) e negativos (AN) e quatro modelos alternativos de mediação, realizando-se de formas distintas a operacionalização da variável estado civil/coabitação. No modelo de mediação final, contemplando o estado civil (com ou sem parceiro), todos os preditores, exceto o género, tiveram relação com os fatores (QCMBP, AP e AN). Abstract: This study aimed to find out whether perceived functional health mediates the effect of age, gender, education, and marital status on the affects in older adults. The sample consisted of 304 participants aged 65 or over, who were volunteers, community-dwelling, living in an urban environment, and screened for cognitive impairment and depression. The structural validity of the Questionário de Competência Motora Básica Percebida (QCMBP) and a scale of positive (PA) and negative (NA) affects, and four alternative mediation models were tested, with the marital/cohabitation status variable operationalized in different ways. In the final mediation model, including marital status (with or without a partner), all the predictors except gender have relationships with the factors (QCMBP, PA, and NA). In this study, perceived functional health mediates the effect of some sociodemographic variables on affect in older adults.
