Abstract: In this presentation, we seek to disseminate a study in the field of Social and Human Sciences on the Heritage and History of the Marble Industry (PHIM), whit news approaches on the use of marbles in the identified architectural elements, in cities and towns of Portugal, in particular at Alentejo province. The paper is divided into two parts: firstly, is about the objectives of the project and their methodologies used throughout the research and the reasons that led to the study of the relationship between the Marbles of Estremoz and the urban architecture buildings from the 16th century. The second reason, are rehearsing some parallels with applications abroad from the internalization of this economic activity, identifying destinations for the export of Portuguese marble.
