on affects in older adults?
Abstract:
This research aims to understand how emotional support mediates the effect of sociodemographic variables on affect in older adults. A sample of 773 older adults, community-dwelling, urban-dwelling, catholic, non-depressed and without cognitive impairment, was used. LISREL 8.80 was used to study the factor structure of emotional support and positive and negative affections and to test mediation models with four ways of operationalizing the marital status and cohabitation. It was concluded that the model that worked best included the sociodemographic variables age, gender, cohabitation, and religion, with gender being the only variable that was not related to the emotional support and the positive and negative affect. However, it was possible to identify the most vulnerable subgroups in this domain. |
