Abstract: The Bologna process has introduced many changes in the teaching and learning process. This has had also a significant influence in the research activities that can be implemented within the first two cycles of European Biosystems engineering university studies. In most cases the research activity has been allocated to the 2nd cycle of studies where the students are encouraged to do research Thesis to finalize their study programs. These are still done within the academic research activities of the Universities. There is, however, a trend to increase the industry oriented research since it will be the industry to employ the majority of 2nd cycle graduates and they will be looking for persons that can better perform in an industry environment. Also the interaction between academic institutions and the industry will help to get private financial support to do research, nowadays, mainly financed by national and international governmental programs.
