Dilatação e torção gástrica em cães

Abstract

Este relatório foi realizado no âmbito do Estágio Curricular do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade de Évora. Este teve lugar no Centro Hospitalar Veterinário (CHV), na cidade do Porto, Portugal, entre os dias 1 de setembro de 2021 e 28 de fevereiro de 2022. No primeiro capítulo é apresentado um resumo da casuística encontrada durante o estágio e do que a estagiária aí realizou. O segundo capítulo engloba uma monografia de revisão bibliográfica acerca da dilatação e torção gástrica (DTG) em cães, incluindo a descrição de um caso clínico acompanhado pela estagiária. A DTG é uma síndrome comum em cães, particularmente animais de porte grande e peito profundo, havendo predisposição racial associada. Tipicamente agudo, os animais apresentam-se com uma dilatação abdominal progressiva e desconforto abdominal, com som timpânico à percussão marcado. É considerada uma emergência médica e a rapidez na instituição de terapêutica é crucial; Canine Gastric Dilation and Volvulus ABSTRACT: This report was written within the scope of the Curricular Internship of the Integrated Master’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine of University of Évora. It took place at Centro Hospitalar Veterinário (CHV), in Porto, Portugal, between the days of september 1st 2021 and february 28th 2022. The first chapter is a summary of the caseload met during the internship and of what the intern herself performed. The second chapter includes a monography of bibliographic review about gastric dilation and volvulus (GDV) in dogs, including the description of a clinical case followed by the intern. GDV is a common syndrome amongst dogs, particularly large and deep chested animals, existing an associated racial predisposition. It has a typically acute onset, where the animals present with a progressively dilated abdomen and abdominal discomfort, with a marked tympanic sound upon percussion. It is considered a medical emergency and the speed of treatment institution is crucial.
