As novas possibilidades de transformação dos homens por via tecnológica: reflexões éticas, sociais e políticas em Habermas, Jonas e Hottois

Abstract

Numa sociedade globalizada, os avanços anunciados pela ciência e tecnologia no campo da engenharia genética (manipulação de ADN, produção de embriões humanos em laboratório, clonagem para utilização em transplantes e o diagnóstico precoce de doenças hereditárias) obrigam a uma reflexão crítica acerca dos limites da sua utilização na transformação do ser humano. A importância deste debate, que incide num futuro próximo, está na necessidade de enfrentar, desde logo, os desafios com que esta tecnologia confrontará a sociedade, com o potencial de alterar o atual conceito de humanidade. Para além de se questionar o impacto da tecnologia na vida humana (adoção de novas práticas destinadas a preservá-la, prolongá-la ou alterá-la) é necessário analisar o contexto em que ela se desenvolve (benefícios e riscos potenciais da sua aplicação), sobretudo no que respeita a problemas de natureza jurídica, social, ética e política. Assim, propõe-se abordar estes desafios à luz dos principais contributos teóricos de Jürgen Habermas, Hans Jonas e Gilbert Hottois, cujos pensamentos filosóficos constituem um instrumento fundamental para a compreensão destas problemáticas. Identificar-se-á assim os traços comuns e divergentes entre estes autores, construindo-se então um quadro teórico para a análise dos desafios tecnológicos de amanhã;

ABSTRACT: In a globalized society, advances in the field of genetic engineering (DNA manipulation, laboratory production of human embryos, cloning for use in transplants and early diagnosis of hereditary diseases) demand a critical reflection on the limits of their used in the transformation of human beings. The importance of this debate, which focuses in the near future, is the need to address the challenges that this technology will confront society with, like the potential to change the current concept of humanity. In addition to questioning the impact of technology on human life (adoption of new practices to preserve it, extend it or change it), it is necessary to analyze the context in which it develops (the potential benefits and risks), especially with regard to legal, social, ethical and political issues. It is proposed to address these challenges in light of the main theoretical contributions of Jürgen Habermas, Hans Jonas and Hottois Gilbert, whose philosophical thoughts are an essential tool for understanding these issues. Thus, the common traits and the main differences between these authors are identified, allowing us to build a theoretical framework for the analysis of tomorrow’s technological challenges.
