O azulejo e a imagem urbana no Centro Histórico do Porto: patologia e propostas de conservação

Abstract

Com a inscrição do “centro histórico” do Porto na lista do Património Mundial, o seu carácter multifuncional, diversidade estética e autenticidade são valores reconhecidos, em termos históricos e culturais, pelo que devem ser internacionalmente preservados e recuperados, sendo a sua imagem urbana um fator a ser preservado. A proliferação do azulejo de fachada no século XIX e a sua importância na caracterização da imagem urbana da cidade do Porto é um fator primordial que não deve ser descurado, apresentando atualmente um quadro patológico preocupante. Com este trabalho pretende-se contribuir para o desenvolvimento e sistematização de uma metodologia de abordagem das intervenções e dos processos de recuperação e manutenção dos revestimentos de fachada a azulejo, defendendo a necessidade premente de os manter in situ, evitando-se assim as frequentes remoções dos suportes naturais. /ABSTRACT - With the registration of the “historical centre" of the Oporto city in the list of the World-wide Patrimonies, its multi-functional character, aesthetic diversity and authenticity are recognized values, in historical and cultural terms. So they must internationally be preserved and be recovered, being its urban image a factor to preserve. The proliferation of the façade tile in XIX century and its importance in the characterization of the urban image of the Oporto city is a primordial factor that does not have to be relinquished, presenting a contently preoccupying pathological picture. With this work it is intended to contribute for the development and systematization of an approach of the interventions and the processes of recovery and maintenance of tile façade coverings, being defended the pressing necessity of keeping “in situ", preventing thus the frequent removals of the natural supports.
