The clients cognitive-behavioral experiences in therapy
The clients are considerate the main source for information about their therapy experience, since they have “privileged access” to certain areas of the therapeutic process (Elliott & James, 1989). It appears, however, that researchers tend to disregard the way that the clients experiences contribute to understand this process (Macran, Ross, Hardy, & Shapiro,1999; Messari, & Hallam, 2003; Messari, & Hallam, 2003), although, on the limit, it isn’t possible to totally understand the clients experience and, consequently how the psychotherapy eases the change, without asking them (Macran et al., 1999). Thus, and because the client perspectives knowledge could lead to more efficient cognitive-behavioral interventions (Elliott, 2008; Messari & Hallam, 2003) it was considered pertinent to study, through the grounded theory method, the clients cognitive-behavioral experiences and its explanations about the change occurred with this one (Clarke, Rees & Hardy, 2004; Dreier, 1998). |
