/***Abstract - Explained by the scientific community, the health and iliness phenomenon’s were, always, explained and communicated by commune people. Through experience, tradition and social contact, people learn and use knowledge about health and illness. These knowledge are incorporated in the individual sphere but are spread by communication, in the social mean where they belong. The study of health and illness social representation, in an Alentejo village was methodologically drawn in a way to allow characterizing those representations. Characterizing social representations means to identify the values, behaviors and traditional practices in the approach made by individuals, to health and to illness. In the study was applied the health and illness social representation model of Claudine Herzlich (1969). This model is organized through inter-relationships between health, illness, individual and society. The illness prevention and health promotion are related in a very close way with strategies of information and communication. Those strategies efficacy is depended of factors such as sharing the meanings by the individuals and the capacity to give answers to populations real needs. |
