Igreja de São Tiago, em Montemor-o-Novo. Uma desconstrução teórica para uma reabilitação prática.

Abstract

A igreja de São Tiago é um dos monumentos localizados no recinto do castelo de Montemor-o-Novo. Durante cerca de sete séculos foi sujeita a várias alterações, quer pela intervenção do homem, quer pelas acções biofísicas, cujos testemunhos se encontram gravados nas próprias paredes ou em documentos históricos. No ano de 2006, o edifício sofreu uma profunda transformação, tendo a sua reabilitação visado a futura criação no local do Centro Interpretativo do Castelo. Fez-se o diagnóstico de quais teriam sido os factores responsáveis para o seu estado de degradação. Assim, foram levados em consideração a sua história, o enquadramento paisagístico, as intervenções realizadas, os materiais de construção e até a própria inércia perante o seu iminente colapso. Depois foi feita uma análise crítica às obras realizadas e à dicotomia entre o intervir ou abandonar. Esta dissertação pretende ser um contributo para a salvaguarda e valorização do património histórico e cultural de Montemor-o-Novo; ### Abstract: Church of São Tiago in Montemor-o-Novo. A theoretical deconstruction for a practical rehabilitation The Church of São Tiago, one of the monuments existing inside the castle of Montemor-o-Novo, has undergone, for about seven centuries, several changes either by human intervention or by actions that resulted from biophysical influence, being these testimonies recorded on their own walls or in ancient documents with records about the temple. In 2006 the building has suffered a profound transformation and rehabilitation having in mind its future purpose: to give place to the Castle Interpretative Centre. A diagnosis was made in order to find out the factors responsible for its present state of degradation. Thus, several factors were taken into account: history, landscape, interventions, building materials and even the inactivity before the imminent collapse. Then was made a critical analysis of the works which have been carried out and even of the dichotomy between the need of a practical rehabilitation and a never-ending degradation. The present dissertation intends to be a contribution to the protection and enrichment of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Montemor-o-Novo.
