O ajustamento e validação do modelo requerem a
utilização do vector i k i i i , 1,...,
~

existem influências significativas quer do fator ano quer do fator local, relativamente ao
comportamento dos cultivares; ABSTRACT: In this work we develope k-degree models of the form M μ E for symmetric
stochastic matrices M, with mean matrix , and E is a symmetric stochastic matrix
with null mean. The models are developed using the spectral analysis of the matrices μ
The adjustment and validation of the model requires the usage of the vector

β γ , which an estimator of the structure vector i k i i i β α , 1,..., of
M. With k ,..., 1 the non-null eingenvalues and k α ,...,α 1 are the eigenvectors , of the
matrix M. The information enclosed in matrix M can be cast into a pair , )

(β V , where
V is the sum of the squared residuals. With the model results one can carry out
transversal and longitudinal inferences. In the latter we work with vectors contrasts in
the components of the structure vector, while in the former we work with the
homologous components of that vector.
As the degree (k) of the model is given by the mean matrix characteristic, and thus the
model study involves all k eigenvalues. For the models with a degree k 1, we still
consider the possibility of truncating the model, when there are eigenvalues, k , , 1
much greater than the other myth.
A direct consequence of our methodology is that degree-one models can be applied
to cross products matrices and Hilbert-Schmidt scalar products matrices. The latter have an important role in the first stage (inter-structure) of STATIS methodology, while the
former matrices (in particular the AAt and A A t cross products, which have the same
non-null eigenvalues) have an important role in inference.
A further development includes structured families models, which are associated to
the treatments in a base design. The action of the factors in the base design on the
structured vectors of the models in the family is studied. In Structured families with
orthogonal base designs, the designs are associated to orthogonal partitions

where m is the number of treatments and indicates orthogonal direct sum of
subspaces. The hypotheses for these designs are associated to the spaces in this
partition. An application of ours results to experiments of plant breeding is made,
showing that there are significant influences of year and local factor, concerning the
behavior of the cultivars. |
