Patologia veterinária e clínica e cirurgia de animais de pecuária

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como principal objetivo a conclusão do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária pela Universidade de Évora. Reúne várias questões da prática veterinária com as quais o autor contactou ao longo do estágio curricular. O trabalho está organizado em três capítulos: o primeiro capítulo trata as atividades realizadas no âmbito da patologia veterinária no departamento de patologia e imunologia molecular do Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar. O estágio foi direcionado para a necropsia e análise histopatológica, assim, são essas as vertentes da patologia que o relatório aborda. O segundo capítulo é referente às atividades realizadas em clínica e cirurgia de animais de pecuária na Associação de Jovens Agricultores Micaelenses. Inicia com uma descrição do ambiente em geral e em particular da agropecuária existente na ilha de São Miguel (Açores), seguidamente, é exposta a casuística e são descritas as atividades veterinárias realizadas. O terceiro capítulo apresenta uma monografia acerca da paratuberculose bovina e inclui o relato de um caso clínico que surgiu durante o estágio em clínica e cirurgia em animais de pecuária. A paratuberculose, também conhecida como doença de Johne, é uma enterite crónica infeciosa que afeta bovinos e outros ruminantes. Mycobacterium avium subespécie paratuberculosis (MAP) é o agente etiológico. O maior desafio da paratuberculose é o diagnóstico precoce dos animais infetados. Este trabalho inclui a descrição dos meios de diagnóstico atualmente disponíveis, quais as suas limitações e quais as recomendações para o seu uso nas explorações bovinas; INTERNSHIP REPORT IN VETERINARY PATHOLOGY AND CLINIC AND SURGERY OF LIVESTOCK ANIMALS ABSTRACT: The main goal of this report is the conclusion of the Integrated Master´s degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Evora. It assembles several issues related to the veterinary practice which took place during the author’s internship. The present work is organized in three chapters: the first one refers to the activities developed in veterinary pathology at the pathology and molecular immunology department of ICBAS (Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar). The necropsy and the histopathological analysis were the activities performed more often in the internship, and that is the reason why these aspects of pathology are focused in more detail in this report. The second one is a description of the clinical and surgical activities performed on livestock animals at Associaçao de Jovens Agricultores Micaelenses (AJAM). This chapter begins with a brief description of the environment in general and about the agriculture and cattle raising existing in Sao Miguel (Azores), followed by a description of several clinical cases, as well as other veterinary activities developed. The third one presents a brief literature review about bovine paratuberculosis, which includes a description of a clinical case assisted by the author. Paratuberculosis, also known as Johne’s disease, is a chronic infectious enteritis that affects cattle and other ruminants. Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is the etiologic agent of paratuberculosis. The main challenge of paratuberculosis is the early diagnosis of the infected animals. This review includes a description of the diagnostic tests currently available, their limitations, and some recommendations regarding their use in the field.
