O consumo turístico responsável: estudo exploratório no âmbito da atividade do ASTO

Abstract

O turismo sustentável visa assegurar os aspetos ambientais, económicos e socioculturais, proporcionando boas experiências para os turistas e para a sociedade. Pretende aproveitar os recursos de forma positiva para que seja possível conservar a biodiversidade e o património dos destinos. No entanto, ainda é um setor com espaço para evolução, uma vez que ainda existem muitos impactos negativos que precisam de ser contornados para uma melhor experiência turística. Assim, com este estágio, complementado com estudo empírico, pretendeu-se compreender mais sobre a sustentabilidade no turismo e de que forma os turistas podem ter um consumo mais sustentável. O presente relatório tem como objetivo principal apresentar uma reflexão sobre os conhecimentos adquiridos durante a realização do estágio curricular no Observatório de Turismo Sustentável do Alentejo (ASTO). Durante a realização do estágio e elaboração do respetivo relatório, recorreu-se a métodos qualitativos (observação participante) e a métodos quantitativos (estudo exploratório). O estudo empírico desenvolvido envolveu aplicação de questionários, em colaboração com a investigação em curso sobre a análise do perfil do visitante do centro histórico da cidade de Évora. Foi, assim, desenvolvido um estudo empírico que permitiu, de forma complementar, analisar se o turista que visita Évora tem comportamentos sustentáveis. Os resultados obtidos, permitem observar dois tipos distintos de visitantes, os que revelam ter comportamentos mais sustentáveis e aqueles com comportamentos menos sustentáveis. Este estudo, também permitiu perceber que Évora é uma cidade com algumas características e serviços sustentáveis, estando inserida numa região que assumiu essa preocupação, que recebe visitantes preocupados e dispostos a ter ações positivas durante a sua visita. Mas existe ainda um percurso a percorrer, acerca do qual foi possível apresentar algumas reflexões; Responsible tourism consumption: Exploratory study in the scope of ASTO's activity Abstract: Sustainable tourism aims to ensure environmental, economic and socio-cultural aspects, providing good experiences for tourists and society. It aims to use resources in a positive way in order to preserve the biodiversity and heritage of destinations. However, it is still a sector with room for evolution, since there are still many negative impacts that need to be overcome for a better tourist experience. Thus, with this internship, complemented with empirical study, it was aimed to understand more about sustainability in tourism and how tourists can have a more sustainable consumption. The main objective of this report is to present a reflection on the knowledge acquired during the internship at the Alentejo Sustainable Tourism Observatory (ASTO). During the internship and the elaboration of the respective report, qualitative methods (participant observation) and quantitative methods (exploratory study) were used. The empirical study developed involved the application of questionnaires, in collaboration with the ongoing research on the analysis of the profile of the visitor to the historic center of the city of Évora. Thus, an empirical study was developed that allowed, in a complementary way, to analyze if the tourists who visit Évora have sustainable behaviors. The results obtained, allow to observe two distinct types of visitors, those who reveal to have more sustainable behaviors and those with less sustainable behaviors. This study also allowed to realize that Évora is a city with some sustainable characteristics and services, being inserted in a region that has taken this concern, that welcomes visitors that are concerned and willing to have positive actions during their visit. But there is still a long way to go, about which it was possible to present some reflections.
