Factors that influenced the choice of study of high chemistry of Evora University and the 12th in the secondary school in Évora The presente research comes from a personal interest, related to my experience as a teacher in this discipline. Throughout my work, I have noticed a decrease in interest, on the part of students, in the search for professional training in the área of Chemistry. This contexto made me reflect on whether the educational institutions are managing to keep up with the great technological advances and the speed with which information arrives to the students, in order to assist them in the understanding of this Science, as well as to awaken the curiosity and the interest for Chemistry to become can develop more as an academic discipline. The proposed investigation aims to characterize the factors that led students who already made the option to study Chemistry in Évora to choose this area of academic formation. The theoretical framework included two areas of knowledge: Science teaching and the Chemistry teaching (didactic). The research design used was descriptive research, with a mixed approach, materializing with the application of questionnaires prepared and validated by specialists. The data were treated using resources from the Excel program for statistical calculations, by the analysis of comparison of the variables and groupings were organized for the categories, in order to allow the inference of the main trends in relation to the responses of the students. The study concludes that the causes of school nature are among the most important factors for the option to study Chemistry, principally the didactics of the teacher and his good relationship with the students; the Chemistry contents as long as they are interesting, contextualized, arouse curiosity and are also approached in a practical way; and Chemistry classes that arouse curiosity and that students can understand the theories and solve the exercises. Possible causes of a personal nature refer to intrinsic motivations. And Regarding future expectations, we can say that these were decisive factors, either to enter a higher education course where knowledge of Chemistry was important or for professional consolidation as a Chemistry Graduate and future master in the areas related to this discipline.
