Viver no campo. A construção de um modelo arquitectónico para uma aldeia agrícola contemporânea

Abstract

A dissertação procura dar resposta arquitectónica ao problema que uma intensificação do povoamento em torno da albufeira da barragem do Alqueva - região do interior do Alentejo - irá previsivelmente colocar. Ao confrontar este território novo - onde se operou uma profunda transformação resultante da implantação de um sistema hidroagrícola, uma rede de irrigação em torno de um extenso lago artificial - uma série de questões se levantaram: Como virá a ser a vivência nos lugares para lá da cidade? Como humanizar, naturalizar, territórios e paisagens profundamente artificializados? Como vão viver as pessoas e quem serão estas pessoas? Quais as suas necessidades? As suas expectativas? O que irão exigir do seu novo lar? Do que é que (não) estarão preparados para abdicar? Como se deverá projectar e construir os espaços de vida das novas comunidades meta-urbanas? Qual deve ser o papel do arquitecto e da arquitectura no processo de mutação de lugar e comunidade? Como recentrar o acto projectual perante a emergência da aldeia inteligente, da aldeia sensível? Como responder ao inelutável estado de permanente mudança ou, até, à adivinhada incontinuidade, dos lugares imaginados? Em que momento, e de que modo, através desta vontade de futuro, o novo se tornará o familiar? A dissertação apresenta-se estruturada em três grandes colunas investigatórias: Utopia, Raiz e Protótipo. Utopia reporta a inquirição sobre o sistema arquitectónico eleito - a megaestrutura; Raiz descreve o percurso do trabalho de campo levado a cabo sob a forma de um estudo de casos a partir de exemplos da colonização interna em Portugal, Espanha e Itália; Protótipo refere-se à formalização de uma proposta arquitectónica para uma aldeia agrícola contemporânea: CampinhoX; Dwelling in the countryside. Building an arquitectural prototype for a contemporary agricultural village ABSTRACT: This dissertation aims to provide an arquitectonic answer to the problem that an increase of population around Alqueva dam reservoir - a region in Alentejo hinterland - will most likely involve. Facing this new territory - that has undergone deep changes due to the development of a vast hydro agricultural system, an irrigation network around a large artificial lake - a serious of questions was aroused: What will be like to live in places beyond the town? Will it be possible to humanize and return to nature landscapes and countries deeply artificialized? How will people live? Who will be those people? What are their needs and expectations? What will they require to their new home? Will they be prepared to renounce to any of their previous privileges? How should one design and build the living spaces for the new meta-urban communities? What will be the role of the architect and architecture in the process of mutation of places and communities? How can we re-centre the design action when facing the intelligent village, the sensitive village? How can one respond to the unavoidable state of permanent change or even to the estimated discontinuity of perceived places? In what moment and how, through this desire of future, the new will become familiar? The dissertation is structured in three great research columns: Utopia, Root and Prototype. Utopia reports to the survey on the chosen architectonic system - the megastructure; Root describes the itinerary of the work undertaken as a case study from examples of internal colonization in Portugal, Spain and Italy; Prototype refers to formalisation of an architectonic proposal to a contemporary agricultural village: CampinhoX.
