Abstract: | Arquitecturas do Sal: Requalificação Arquitectónica das Salinas do Estuário do Rio Arade
valorização, preservação e divulgação do património salineiro presente no estuário do Rio Arade.
Salinos inseridos no seio desta prática milenar; ABSTRACT:
Salt's Architectures: Architectural Rehabilitation of the Arade River's Estuary saltmarshes
The research area of this Dissertatio, aims to enhance, preserve and disseminate the heritage of
the Arade River's Estuary salt pans.
Saliculture not only represents a traditional Mediterranean activity, but is also a reflection of
architectural structures of high intrinsic value both in heritage and in relation to the surrounding
landscape and a place. Alongside agriculture and fishing, traditional saliculture was a structuring activity
on the Algarve coast, which was of major importance to the economy of this region, also marking the
local culture and population.
Nowadays, the growing recognition of the importance of traditional sea salt, as well as the
awareness of the value and potential of salt pans, has led to a reversal of the cycle of decay through the
gradual recovery of abandoned infrastructure, adding to these places new programs promoting not only
economic and cultural reactivation but also social integration and environmental sustainability.
Relating the study of a traditional activity and its architectural forms, it is proposed to carry out
through a research and architectural project, a new program of Saline Baths inserted within this millenary
practice. |
