Abstract: What is the meaning of a statue? Which is the information it gives? Who was the master who paid for it? Those questions appear when we look at the sculptures of Evora which were made between 1860 and 1910, the monarchic period when the nation-state was created and when multiple powers grew. In this article, Maria Zozaya shows the history and simbolical power of public sculptures and discovers many others that had been hidden or unknown in the last 90 years for political reasons, as she argues.
