Ensino e educação no Maranhão e Grão-Pará secs. XVII e XVIII. Os Jesuítas e prática missionária através da obra de J. Felipe Bettendorff (1638-1759)

Abstract

O objetivo desta tese é caraterizar o ensino e educação no Maranhão e Grão-Pará (séculos XVII-XVIII) – Os jesuítas e prática missionária. A metodologia utilizada baseou-se na realização de estudo que abrange a fenomenogia-hermenêutica ao reforçar o que já foi produzido por autores do passado e do presente que abordam o ensino e educação ministrados pelos jesuítas no então Estado do Maranhão nos séculos XVII e XVIII, como também suas práticas missionárias naquele local. No entanto, a vali-dade dos documentos aferidos na investigação ganhou qualidade nestes procedimentos para enfatizar a localização do objeto de estudo, partiu-se da denominação Ilha do Maranhão descoberta, povoada e sob o domínio francês, de 1607 a 1614, foi-lhe atribuído o nome de São Luís do Maranhão em 1611, em homenagem ao Monarca Luís XIII. Desta forma, o material coletado foi submetido a análise crite-riosa e de acordo com os objetivos que possibilitaram a estruturação de capítulos ordenados através da sequência de acontecimentos. Após a análise dos estudos, pode constatar-se a importância da contri-buição do conhecimento acerca do ensino e educação ministrados pelos jesuítas no Maranhão e Grão-Pará (1638-1759) para que o ensino e a educação jesuíticos sejam vistos numa perspectiva de análise mais objetiva. Deste modo, esta tese vem contribuir para evidenciar Ensino e Educação no Maranhão e Grão-Pará (séculos XVII-XVIII) – Os jesuítas e prática missionária através da obra de João Felipe Bettendorff (1638-1759), na atual região da Amazónia, tendo em conta a escassez de investigação sobre o ensino e a educação na região; ABSTRACT: TITLE: Teaching and Education in Maranhão and Grão-Pará in the 17th and 18th centuries – the Jesuits and their missionary practice from the perspective of the work by J. Felipe Bettendorff (1638-1759) The purpose of this thesis is to characterize the teaching and education in Maranhão and Grão-Pará (17th and 18th centuries) – the Jesuits and their missionary practice. The methodology adopted was based on a study encompassing the main and the secondary sources and reinforcing past and present authors’ work addressing the Jesuit teaching and education in the State of Maranhão during the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as their missionary practices in that region. However, the validity of the documents checked throughout this research was improved through these procedures to emphasize the location of the subject under study, starting from the designation of Ilha do Maranhão discovered, populated and under French domination from 1607 to 1614, the name of São Luís do Maranhão was assigned in 1611, as a tribute to the King Louis XIII. This way, the collected data were submitted to a careful analysis according to the objectives, providing the structure of chapters ordered through the sequence of events. After the analysis of the selected studies, it is evident the relevance of this knowledge contribution on the Jesuit teaching and education in Maranhão and Grão-Pará (1638-1759) so that Jesuit teaching and education are viewed from a more objective analysis perspective. Therefore, this thesis aims to contribute to highlight Teaching and Education in Maranhão and Grão-Pará in the 17th and 18th centuries – Jesuits and their missionary practice from the perspective of the work by João Felipe Bettendorff (1638-1759), in the region of today’s Amazonia, taking into account the scarcity of investigation on the teaching and education in that region.
