Ultrasound-guided paravertebral block in cattle
This report refers to the internship in farm animal Practice. Firstly, there is a briefly description of the activities undertaken and, secondly, is developed a study on the "Ultra-sound guided paravertebral block in cattle".
The objective of this study was the development of an ultra-sound guided paravertebral block technique, which blocks the branches of the thirteenth spinal nerve and the first two lumbar nerves in cattle. It was conducted a neuroanatomical and ultrasonographic study in three fresh cadavers to delineate the technique. Then, this technique was compared with the conventional techniques in an in vivo study. It was possible to visualize directly the nerves, the adjacent structures and the dispersion of the local anesthetic, to dye 61,1% of the nerves and to block the nerves in all animals. The ultra-sound guided paravertebral block technique in cattle proved to be a feasible technique with comparable efficacy to the conventional techniques. |
