Percorrer a paisagem de Alcácer do Sal. Ensaio projetual para uma Nova Comunidade em Arez

Abstract

A investigação constituise enquanto abordagem projetual desenvolvida realizado na unidade curricular de Projeto Avançado III no ano letivo de 2023|2024, teve como docentes os professores convidados os arquitetos Paulo Martins Barata, Nuno Rodrigues e o professor João Soares. O trabalho estruturase ao longo do processo de conceção e reflexão e na articulação entre dois domínios complementares: o domínio de projeto, centrado na proposta arquitetónica, e o domínio de investigação, de caráter histórico, territorial e temático. O objetivo principal é propor uma resposta à crise habitacional contemporânea, articulandoa com os ideais de liberdade e participação coletiva evocados pela exposição “Mais do que Casas: Como vamos habitar em abril de 2074?”. Esta reconhece que o direito à cidade ultrapassa uma mera “escassez de casas” e a sua reflexão focase na criação de espaços de convivência e identidade, indispensáveis à coesão social e à vitalidade dos territórios. Deste modo, este desafio é contextualizado pelo grande crescimento económico e industrial de Sines que gera mais emprego e consequentemente necessidade de mais habitação. Em resposta, o projeto propõe a criação de um núcleo habitacional em Arez, estruturado com um mercado comunitário e uma galeria exterior como catalisadores de encontro e dinamização social. Estes espaços assumemse como infraestruturas de vizinhança, promotoras de trocas materiais e simbólicas, que fortalecem a noção de comunidade e ampliam o conceito de habitar. Na procura de uma hipótese urbana e arquitetónica, o trabalho confrontase com: 1) Aspetos objetivos como a relação com a estrutura viária existente e o enquadramento territorial e paisagístico — um território de pinhal, azinhal e arrozal no âmbito da bacia do Sado; 2) Questões programáticas e construtivas, que visam a integração equilibrada entre o edificado e a paisagem natural;3 )Dimensões sociais e simbólicas do espaço coletivo, entendendo a arquitetura como instrumento de mediação entre o indivíduo, a comunidade e o território. 4)Considerase o valor metodológico do trabalho em atelier com outros colegas, que encarando o mesmo desafio constituemse no conjunto de reflexões produzidas num efetivo e maturado estado dos conhecimentos sobre áreas e temas associados. Assim, o projeto procura entender como se lida com as questões de conceção de uma base urbana “exnovo”, focando em questões como a tipologia urbana e a linguagem arquitetónica; - Walking the Landscape of Alcácer do Sal. A Design Essay for a New Community in Arez - Abstract: This research constitutes a designbased approach developed within the curricular unit of Advanced Project III during the academic year 2023/2024, under the guidance of invited professors and architects Paulo Martins Barata, Nuno Rodrigues, and Professor João Soares. The work is structured throughout the design and reflection process, articulating two complementary domains: the project domain, focused on the architectural proposal, and the research domain, which is historical, territorial, and thematic in nature. The main objective is to propose a response to the contemporary housing crisis, linking it to the ideals of freedom and collective participation evoked by the exhibition "More than Houses: How will we inhabit in April 2074?" This exhibition acknowledges that the right to the city goes beyond a mere "shortage of houses," focusing its reflection on the creation of spaces for conviviality and identity, which are indispensable for social cohesion and the vitality of territories. Thus, this challenge is contextualized by the significant economic and industrial growth of Sines, which generates more employment and consequently a greater need for housing. In response, the project proposes the creation of a housing cluster in Arez, structured around a community market and an outdoor gallery as catalysts for social encounter and dynamization. These spaces assume the role of neighborhood infrastructures, promoting material and symbolic exchanges that strengthen the notion of community and expand the concept of inhabitation. In seeking an urban and architectural hypothesis, the work grapples with. 1) Objective aspects such as the relationship with the existing road network and the territorial and landscape context — a territory of pine forests, cork oak groves, and rice paddies within the Sado basin; 2) Programmatic and constructive issues, aiming for a balanced integration between the built environment and the natural landscape; 3) Social and symbolic dimensions of collective space, understanding architecture as a tool for mediation between the individual, the community, and the territory; 4) The methodological value of studio work with other colleagues who, facing the same challenge, contribute to a body of reflections that constitutes an effective and mature state of knowledge regarding the associated areas and themes. Thus, the project seeks to understand how to deal with the design issues of an "exnovo" urban base, focusing on questions such as urban typology and architectural language.
