Papel e contributos das organizações agrícolas no caminho para a sustentabilidade: identificação de indicadores

Title: Papel e contributos das organizações agrícolas no caminho para a sustentabilidade: identificação de indicadores
Authors: Ferreira, S.; Marta-Costa, A.; Fragoso, R.; Vian, C.
Abstract: The competitive context of agricultural organizations, such as associations and cooperatives is being influenced by the paradigm of sustainable development, being necessary to consider the requirements of sustainability in their activity. These agricultural organizations can facilitate the interaction between farmers and, hence favour the sustainable production and trading of their agricultural products, as well as the access to services that promote the adoption of sustainable practices. Agricultural organizations inform their associates, enabling the technological development, and are key players in increasing productivity and improving environmental issues. Thus, this article aims to identify and define indicators for evaluating the sustainability of agricultural associations and cooperatives. A systematic analysis of the literature is developed focused on scientific articles from the bibliographic bases of the Web of Science and Scopus. The results showed that sustainability indicators are enable to support predictive models for assessing sustainability, and highlights their contribution to improving the management of agricultural organizations, allowing the visualization of strengths and opportunities to face weaknesses and threats. Mapping documents allowed identifying economic, environmental and social indicators, which are a starting point for a research agenda focused on the role of agricultural organizations on the sustainability of the agricultural sector

Title: A pobreza na Economia de Francisco: uma perspetiva ambiental, económica e social
Authors: Belucio, Matheus; Braga, Gabriela; Luís, Daniela; Nascimento, Rita

Title: Conditions and impact of IPSAS adoption by emerging economies and developing countries – a literature review
Authors: Muacassange, Porfirio; Ventura, José; Jorge, Susana
Abstract: From the adoption of IPSAS [International Public Sector Accounting Standards] is expected to improve public sector financial reporting, through increased reliability, transparency, comparability and relevance of financial information. This article presents a general literature review on the adoption of IPSAS by countries, considering that the process of economic globalization increasingly reinforces the importance of harmonizing accounting practices and principles. Focus is given to the situation of emerging economies and developing countries, namely the difficulties and barriers, as well as the benefits associated with the transition process. Methodologically, the research was carried out in repositories of scientific and technical information. This article offers a starting point for more in-depth empirical investigations in this field, particularly on various aspects related to the transition from public accounting in emerging economies and developing countries to accrual accounting based on IPSAS, identifying some research gaps.

National or Regional Recruitment: “Market Area” of University Cities

Abstract: The depopulation of eastern Portugal and concentration on the coast has been a longstanding process. Since 1973 new HEIs has been disseminated around the country, and nowadays, every Portuguese region holds a set of HEIs. However, those closer to the coast tend to have a higher demand than those more distant. It is not clear if each one has a kind of restricted market area, such as a spatial monopoly in its neighbouring area or a national recruitment for some of them. This paper is the first exercise of determination of these areas for the Portuguese public network of HEIs. We use a database from the Ministry of Education (DGEEC-Ministry of Education) with information of the pair, place of residence (municipality level)and respective HEI, for enrolled students. Through techniques of Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA), we will look for clusters of municipalities that could be market areas for each “university city” considered. We also use fractional regression models that confirm the positive correlation between the chosen university city and the distance to the family home and belonging to the market area. Despite some overlaps, the market areas of the university cities look to be well defined.
