Abstract: RESUMO
velocidades e temperaturas relativamente elevadas.
ABSTRACT
Geoid height values obtained with models EGM 84, EGM96 and EGM2008 for the region under study present significant
changes, occurring in relatively short time intervals, which can be interpreted as density changes associated with
temperature variations in the region.
In the present work, studies were made with data of the geomagnetic field (average hourly values) obtained at the
Magnetic Observatories of Coimbra, San Fernando and Almeria, and it was concluded that anomalies detected on
February 27 of 1969 can be interpreted as being obtained by superposition of additional magnetic fields (in relation to the
day 26th), initially with mainly horizontal component and later with mainly vertical component. These additional fields
may be associated with ion movements with mainly vertical direction followed by mainly horizontal direction The variation
in the direction of the geomagnetic field and the associated electric field lines could lead to reorientation of dipolar
molecules and temperature increase in the region, which may have caused opening of cracks and fractures already
existing in the region, facilitating the entry of large amounts of water to deep zones, with relatively high speeds and
temperatures. The variation in the direction of the geomagnetic field and the associated electric field lines could lead to
reorientation of dipolar molecules and temperature increase in the region, which may have caused opening of cracks and
fractures already existing in the region, facilitating the entry of large amounts of water to deep zones, with relatively high
speeds and temperatures..
The existence of serpentinites in the region leads us to propose the occurrence of exothermic chemical reactions in peridotites with accelerated reaction speed due to large amounts of water with relatively high speeds and temperatures.2022-11-01T00:00:00ZSaharan dust intrusions over southern Portugal: overall characterization and atmospheric synoptic patterns (2005-2015)Fragoso, M.Silva, T.Correia, E.Vasconcelos, J.Lopes, A.Carraça, M.G.http://hdl.handle.net/10174/336722023-01-27T17:29:58Z2020-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Saharan dust intrusions over southern Portugal: overall characterization and atmospheric synoptic patterns (2005-2015)

Saharan dust intrusions are a phenomenon responsible for several environmental impacts over the Mediterranean regions. Regarding the Iberian Peninsula, very scarce studies have addressed this topic in Portugal contrasting to the extensive literature produced by Spanish researchers (e.g. Díaz et la, 2017; Salvador et al, 2014; Alonso Pérez et al, 2011; Escudero et al, 2005). Among the most relevant impacts associated with north African dust intrusions are its adverse effects on human health and mortality (Kotsyfakis et al, 2019). The present study pretends to be a contribution to improve the current knowledge on dust intrusions over Southern Portugal (Central Alentejo region) focusing on two main issues: firstly, the characterization of the incidence of Saharan dust intrusions over the period 2005-2015, by analyzing its interannual, seasonal and monthly distribution; secondly, this study aims to analyse the synoptic meteorological conditions that favour these intrusions.2020-01-01T00:00:00ZSolar Irradiation Data Processing using estimator MatriceS (SIMS) validated for Portugal (southern Europe)Silva, Hugo G.Abreu, Edgar F.M.Lopes, FranciscoCavaco, AfonsoCanhoto, PauloNeto, JorgeCollares-Pereira, Manuelhttp://hdl.handle.net/10174/334582023-01-16T15:55:56Z2020-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Solar Irradiation Data Processing using estimator MatriceS (SIMS) validated for Portugal (southern Europe)

Abstract: Accurate solar resource assessment is essential in all the different phases of solar energy systems design and implementation. On a local scale, the solar resource is best assessed from ground measurements and, if available, with the existence of complete time-series of hourly values for the long-term resource estimation. However, these usually suffer from the occurrence of data gaps that can be as large as several months for remote and/or less maintained stations. Such gaps hinder the correct assessment of solar availability and, for that matter, their filling is a crucial first step to perform an appropriate assessment. In this context, a method for Solar Irradiation Data Processing using estimator MatriceS (SIMS) has been developed and is presented here. The algorithm allows to determine long-term linear correlations between a network of spatially distributed stations and, with these, to identify possible outliers and to fill data gaps through the selection of the median value from the obtained estimations. The method is validated against global horizontal irradiation (GHI) data from a network that comprises 89 ground measuring stations, being maintained by the Portuguese Meteorology Service (IPMA - Instituto Portugu^es do Mar e da Atmosfera), considering a period of 17 years (from 2001 to 2017). Two important assertions are made for coefficients between stations: (1) coefficients only decrease slightly with the distance between stations (with a median reduction of ~0.0003 km 1), for the considered network; (2) asymptotic long-term coefficients are reached with only one year of data. Taking advantage of the SIMS method, GHI assessment is presented here in the form of availability maps over the Portuguese mainland, with the respective values being listed in a table for future reference. The present assessment confirms that Portugal is a suitable region for the implementation of solar energy systems, with GHI having availabilities up to 2028.4 kWh/m2/year ±3.4% in Sagres (southernmost part of Portugal).2020-01-01T00:00:00ZCondições meteorológicas durante mega-incêndios e piro-convecção em PortugalCampos, CátiaCouto, FlavioSalgado, RuiFilippi, Jean-BaptisteBaggio, Robertahttp://hdl.handle.net/10174/330392022-12-29T16:58:21Z2022-11-28T00:00:00ZTitle: Condições meteorológicas durante mega-incêndios e piro-convecção em Portugal
