Nos dias de hoje, estas obras estão em estado de hibernação, na escuridão dos depósitos e dos arquivos, longe dos ouvidos do público e das luzes dos palcos. Nesta série documental, foram filmadas centenas de documentos históricos e dezenas de entrevistas com historiadores, músicos e musicólogos, para redescobrir a vida e as obras destes compositores. Trata-se de uma nova forma de contar a história da música portuguesa e de divulgar o património musical português ao público. O Episódio 4 é um documentário dedicado a António da Silva Leite e teve a primeira antestreia em Vila do Conde, no Teatro Municipal, a 26 de março de 2025, à qual se seguiu uma conversa com o realizador, a autora da série e o entrevistado Rui Bessa. O documentário leva-nos numa viagem pelo passado à descoberta da vida e da obra do compositor portuense António da Silva Leite, que cruza com a história da cidade do Porto nos finais do século XVIII e princípios do século XIX. Uma história turbulenta marcada pelas invasões francesas ao Porto e o cerco à cidade do durante mais de um ano. O documentário descreve como o compositor resistiu à dominância da Igreja sobre a atividade musical, que caracterizava o Porto naquela época, e como conseguiu conviver com esta realidade e criar a sua própria música no recente Real Teatro de São João, bem como nas igrejas e nos mosteiros do Porto, Matosinhos e Vila do Conde. / LUSITANIAN MASTERS AND SOUNDS is a six-episode documentary series funded by the Portuguese Republic - Culture | Directorate-General for the Arts, which portrays the biographies of six Portuguese composers from the 18th and 19th centuries whose works became famous at the time, both inside and outside Portugal. Today, these works are in a state of hibernation, in the darkness of storage and archives, far from the ears of the public and the lights of the stage. In this documentary series, hundreds of historical documents and dozens of interviews with historians, musicians, and musicologists were filmed to rediscover the lives and works of these composers. It is a new way of telling the story of Portuguese music and disseminating Portuguese musical heritage to the public. Episode 4 is a documentary dedicated to António da Silva Leite and had its first preview in Vila do Conde, at the Municipal Theatre, on March 26, 2025, followed by a conversation with the director, the author of the series and the interviewee Rui Bessa. The documentary takes us on a journey through the past to discover the life and work of the Porto-born composer António da Silva Leite, whose story intersects with the history of the city of Porto at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries. A turbulent history marked by the French invasions of Porto and the siege of the city for more than a year. The documentary describes how the composer resisted the dominance of the Church over musical activity, which characterized Porto at that time, and how he managed to coexist with this reality and create his own music in the recently built Royal Theatre of São João, as well as in the churches and monasteries of Porto, Matosinhos and Vila do Conde.

The documentary tells us about the time when João Domingos Bomtempo was born, his international career in Paris, the circumstances that led him to leave Paris and go to London, and his definitive return to Portugal, where he did everything to implement the latest artistic and pedagogical ideas that were emerging in Europe, namely, the creation of the Philharmonic Society and the creation of the first secular music school in Portugal.

Natural de Elvas, João Cordeiro da Silva partiu para Lisboa após o terramoto de 1755 e entrou ao serviço da família real, primeiro como organista e depois como compositor régio na Capela Real da Ajuda. The documentary transports us to the Alentejo border region of the 18th century and introduces us to a composer whose ambition to achieve a better life in the capital did not overshadow his connection to his roots. Born in Elvas, João Cordeiro da Silva left for Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake and entered the service of the royal family, first as an organist and then as a royal composer at the Royal Chapel of Ajuda. Through interviews, sound recordings, and period documents, the documentary portrays the composer's journey until his return to Elvas in old age, where he continued to compose and conduct his music.
