Authors: Bual, Miguel
Abstract: Multisensorial design usually relies on vision, audition and haptic senses for interacting with devices, generally leaving taste and smell aside from conventional modes used in most device interfaces. The feedback we get by interacting with appliances is mostly visual, auditive or haptic. We may agree that smell or taste may be secondary to the above referred senses due to several features, some related with cognition and others due to technical constraint. The role of taste and smell as a communicative feature from a device may not be obvious. However, these two senses may be of use. In taste we have the usage of Bitrex® as a safety feature being the most bitter substance in order to avoid ingestion of countless different products. Similarly, the intentional use of an unpleasant smell to prevent people from staying in a given space can be considered a good example of its usage. The use of scent as a secondary sense to help on experiences causing a prosody effect is also possible with smell. This paper will explore the role that a smell may have as a modality to be used in designing devices.2020-01-01T00:00:00ZScent Interfaces Definition – Diffuser devices interaction and controlBual, Miguelhttp://hdl.handle.net/10174/347462023-02-27T11:58:32Z2020-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Scent Interfaces Definition – Diffuser devices interaction and control
Authors: Bual, Miguel
Abstract: Interface’s definition, in its various perceptions, is explained as the relation between different systems interaction with or without human intervention. Scents are perceived with a direct link to the brain cortex that handles emo-tions, often triggering immediate emotions [1]. Aroma cannot be seen, heard or touched; it must be dispersed in the air to be perceived. To do so inten-tionally, a diffusing device built with the purpose of spreading smell into an environment is usually needed and it requires a controlled source. High-tech scent diffusers make use of new technologies reaching new usage and expe-riences. This includes smart control in various uses, frequently offering mul-tisensorial interfaces. We can observe this in numerous appliances today. This paper discusses scent interfaces for controlling scent diffusion, investi-gating on the space between a scent diffuser device and its control source to define and categorize Scent Interfaces.2020-01-01T00:00:00ZMisérables, infortunées, et reines parfois: femmes artistes portugaises en marge (XIXe-XXe siècles)Leandro, Sandrahttp://hdl.handle.net/10174/258252019-09-17T14:47:28Z2019-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Misérables, infortunées, et reines parfois: femmes artistes portugaises en marge (XIXe-XXe siècles)
