O Colégio dos Meninos do Coro da Sé de Évora e a acção de D. Frei Luís da Silva Teles

Abstract

Resumo Uma das instituições com maior reconhecimento cultural no período de Quinhentos que Évora conheceu foi o Colégio dos Meninos do Coro, intrinsecamente ligado à famosa e já estudada Escola de Música da Sé de Évora. Efectivamente, o projecto de formação e instrução dos educandos da instituição passava pela grande importância dada à Música, possibilitando o surgir de reconhecidos nomes no panorama musical nacional e europeu. Se o Colégio conheceu particular projecção nesse período, ele continuaria activo até ao republicanismo, sendo que uma das suas fases áureas passou também pela construção de novas instalações, espaço agora ocupado pelo renovado Museu de Arte Sacra da Sé de Évora. É destas novas instalações, iniciadas em finais de Seiscentos, e de um dos seus principais promotores, o arcebispo D. Frei Luís da Silva Teles, que trataremos neste artigo. Abstract One of the institutions with greater cultural recognition during the XVI century in Évora was the Meninos do Coro College, intrinsically linked to the famous and also studied Music school of Evora’s Cathedral. Indeed, the draft training and instruction of students of the institution was going through its emphasis on the music, allowing the emergence of recognized names in the music world, in a national and European level. If the College met particular projection in this period, it would still active up to republicanism, and one of its heydays periods also became with the construction of a new building, the area now occupied by the new Sacred Art Museum of the Cathedral. The history of this new building, which construction began at the end of XVII century, combined with one of its main sponsors, the Archbishop D. Frei Luís da Silva Teles, are the reason for this article.
