Abstract: This chapter focuses on the analysis of the new urban lease regime as a practice of neoliberal urbanism in Portugal, which promotes eviction, displacement and residential segregation. Against this background, it is argued that post-crisis recuperation efforts carried out by urban social movements should be acknowledged as modest attempts to deal with broader political, economic and anthropological transformations brought on by austerity policies, which profoundly reshaped urban environments and severely compromised the right to housing and to the city.
