comercialização do fármaco de eleição; ABSTRACT: Theileriosis is a tick-borne disease caused by the protozoan Theileria annulata,
which is transmitted by the Hyalomma gender. This disease represents a threat to
cattle production in many countries, causing serious economic losses. In Portugal,
Alentejo and Ribatejo are considered endemic regions.
The objectives of this study were: identify and situate geographically infected
farms; estimate the prevalence of infected holdings; evaluate the prevalence of
infected cattle on a sample of 260 animals; alert to the importance of the disease in
Alentejo.
Using IFAT with the dilution of 1/160, was obtained a prevalence of infected
holdings of 92.3% and a seroprevalence of 46.2% of infected animals. Of all farms in
this study, only two were considered uninfected.
The results obtained brought to light the importance of tropical theileriosis in
Portugal, requiring the application of effective control measures, as well as, marketing
the drug of choice. |
