Abstract: Black shale (BS) lithologies are represented in Precambrian (Ediacaran) of Ossa-Morena Zone, SW of Iberian Massif, through the Série Negra lithological succession. The organic matter (OM) investigation in BS is relevant to understanding the mechanisms and depositional paleoenvironments related to that genesis. This study aims to characterise the OM in BS from the Série Negra succession through petrographic and geochemical methodologies. The petrographic study allowed the identification of organic particles with variable abundance, size and shape in all samples. The maximum reflectance indicates that the OM corresponds to anthracite to semi-graphite. OM maturation variation in the Série Negra succession is related to variable burial evolution and metamorphic/metasomatic processes in the Ossa-Morena Zone sectors.2023-04-30T23:00:00ZGeoelectrical survey in three areas in Barton Peninsula near the King Sejong Korean Antarctic Station

Abstract: With the objective of trying to find a correlation between electrical resistivity values of the ground and the existence of different kinds of mosses and liquens, a geoelectrical survey using the electrical resistivity tomography methodology was used in three areas near the King Sejong Korean Antarctic Station. The geoelectrical models obtained for most of the profiles in the three areas of this work indicate that permafrost exists at depths deeper than 0.6 m. Because of lack of vegetation information no correlation between the electrical resistivity values and the existence of mosses and liquens at the surface of the ground can be inferred. More geoelectrical surveys are necessary. Some care should be taken, though, when doing the geoelectrical work because the ground near the King Sejong Antarctic Station presents very high electrical ground resistances.2017-01-01T00:00:00ZCharacterization of Arsenical Mud from Effluent Treatment of Au Concentration Plants, Minas Gerais – Brazil.

Abstract: The determination of the general properties of arsenical mud was carried out in effluent
treatment plant of an Au metallurgical facility, located in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
This effluent, which comes from the calcination stage, is treated via Fe-coprecipitation / lime-neutralization and thus mud with high As concentration is generated. Instrumental methods were applied to investigate physical-chemical characteristics, such as pH, in
addition to the forms of occurrence of As and its associations. The results indicated
that the mud has an alkaline pH (≈ 8.5), particles with grain size below 20 µm, and As, Fe, S and Al concentrations above 5%. The element As is essentially associated with Fe,
Ca, S, and Al, forming phases with wide compositional variation as major and minor
constituents generically classified as “complex sulfates” and “compounds with S”. The
obtained results could assist optimization of the treatment routes in the plant and even
to consider the potential reuse of this arsenic mud as a potential valuable product2021-01-01T00:00:00Z
